Mamma mia, can we go again?!

November 13th, 2018

Lorri Johnson is a certified music therapist at Youville Residence, one of PHC’s seniors’ residences. This is her story, in her own words.

I’ve known Lilian ever since I started working at Youville. She is a big ABBA fan. And for a long time now, I’ve wanted to take her to see the musical Mamma Mia. I finally got the chance this past summer. We got dressed up, had our hair and make-up done, and hopped a cab to the theatre (with a pit stop for ice cream, of course).

Lilian absolutely loved seeing the show live in the theatre.

She was singing along quietly to the songs that she knew and enthusiastically clapping to the music. There were a few times she got teary-eyed hearing her favourites. After the show, we had a chance to talk to some of the cast members and take pictures. She even got a couple of kisses on the cheek from two handsome men in the cast. When it was all over, we went outside to wait for our chariot to take us back to Youville. We sat in the shade and watched the cars and people go by until it was time to leave.

It was such a wonderful afternoon for both of us. Hopefully we can do it again – sooner rather than later!
