St. Paul's Third Party Event Fundraising

Walk for Love

Our "Walk for Love" fundraiser, benefitting the Virani Pacific Adult Congenital Heart Program (VPACH) at St. Paul's Hospital will take place on Saturday May 4, 2024. We invite you to join and help support this cause that's very near and dear.

After receiving care and using the services of the VPACH Program at St. Paul's, and seeing first hand the dedication and care given to those who suffer from heart disease, our family would like to support this wonderful team, to say thank you!

Congenital heart disease in BC

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect, affecting approximately 1% of the population. Of this 1%, 40% will have moderate and complex conditions that require lifelong care from a specialized, multidisciplinary team.

In BC alone, adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) affects approximately 12,000 adults. Historically, CHD had a high fatality rate, with less than 20% of children born with CHD reaching adult hood. However, thanks to the transformative innovations in cardiac care, there are now more adults living with CHD than babies born with it. With more patients living into healthy adult hood, it is crucial for us to build capacity to transition and support their care.

In this province, babies born with CHD begin their care at BC Children's Hospital. Following their 18th birthday, these pat ients are referred to the Yasmin and Amir Virani Provincial Congenital Heart (VPACH) Program at St. Paul's Hospital, which welcomes approximately 350 new patients each year.

"There are thousands of patients living with complex congenital heart disease across the province. The VPACH team is working hard to make sure that each patient has access to the required highly specialized care offered through St. Paul's Hospital." - Dr. Jasmine Grewal.

Your support will help to change the lives of thousands of British Columbians living with ACHD - supporting them in their transition from pediatric to adult care, expanding access to care beyond the Lower Mainland, and allowing the VPACH Program to continue to improve outcomes for patients living with ACHD, and enhance clinical care delivery, research, and education.

We would love your support. Please make a donation today!
