St. Paul's Third Party Event Fundraising

International Overdose Awareness Day

Since 2016, BC has lost over 12,000 of our community members to overdose from the toxic drug supply. Urban Health staff want to stand in solidarity with our friends, families, colleagues and community members who have lost loved ones to overdose. Our event on August 31st in recognition of IOAD is to counteract the deadly stigma that is associated with substance use, and provide essential, life-saving information about overdose prevention and response.

The Urban Health program with Providence Health Care specializes in providing evidence-based, patient-centred care for patients with Substance Use Disorders, HIV/AIDS, and infectious diseases. The majority of our patients have complex trauma histories. They often face homelessness or precarious housing, may live in abject poverty, and frequently face daily stigma associated with addiction. We strive to follow the mission of Providence Health Care in offering compassionate care that considers the lived experiences of our patients.

The items purchased are often simple but can be immensely impactful. A sandwich and snacks for someone suffering daily food insecurity, a pair of shoes for someone admitted without any, bus or cab fare to assist someone to safely arrive at a detox centre. These simple gestures are an important intervention – an extension of the kindness and generosity of our donors that reach out and supports those suffering in our communities. They increase trust with the healthcare system and enable our clients and patients to continue connecting to care.

We would love your support. Please make a donation today!
