Reimagining long-term care – and a chance to double your impact with the Conconi Challenge

For Jean, moving into Providence Living at The Views didn’t mean giving things up — it meant regaining them. Like the quiet delight of a warm bubble bath in her own private bathroom, something she hadn’t been able to enjoy in years. Or the reassurance of knowing she’ll never have to push aside a plate of pasta she doesn’t like, because staff remember her preferences. These moments may seem small, but together they reveal something meaningful: a model of care grounded in respect, autonomy, and genuine human connection.

Jean used to spend a lot of time on her private computer in her room (which every resident has), but now she spends most of her time attending community events and with the friends she’s made.

“Feeling love – that’s what makes The Views home,” she says.

And you can play a part in making moments like these possible.

And now, the Conconi Family is matching all gifts to St. Paul’s Foundation up to $1.5 million. The impact of your kindness will go further than ever before.

Together, we can make the Home for Us model possible for all British Columbians: private rooms, warm kitchens, and vibrant spaces where residents like Jean are known, loved, and truly at home.

About Providence Living at the Views and the Home for Us model of care

When you walk through the doors of Providence Living at The Views in Comox, you don’t step into an institution. You step into life. Cooking meals, strolling through the gardens, sipping coffee in the cafe, chatting with friends – this is where seniors and older adults are thriving with choice, independence, and dignity.

The Views is Canada’s first publicly funded care village shaped by Home for Us — a new model Providence Living created by drawing on best practices from around the world.

“The Home for Us model brings the everyday back into long-term care,” says Dr. Jennifer Gibson, Providence Living’s executive director of Quality, Practice, and Program Development. “We call them life’s daily pleasures, which make the everyday life experience joyful.”

Providence Living is redefining what long-term care looks like, including:

  • Private rooms residents and their loved ones can decorate along with private bathrooms
  • Household kitchens where residents can make their own meals and enjoy them at any time of day
  • Members from the larger community gathering at the café
  • Residents joining their friends to paint, sew, or do other crafts
  • Courtyards buzzing with life as residents enjoy the barbeque with their family, or work in the gardens or play with their grandchildren on the playground

Each resident sets the rhythm and flow of their day, whether that’s sleeping in or grabbing a coffee with friends.

This model aims to make long-term care better by rooting it in a sense of community. And it's working. Since opening in the summer of 2024, Providence Living at The Views has seen measurable improvements in residents’ well-being.

There’s more joy. The environment impacts how residents feel. Residents appear more relaxed. Residents also spend more time outside and sleep better. They’re more engaged in the world around them.
