Building for the Future

Teamwork made possible by you

Through this last year, we’ve been moved by the stories of healing, compassion, and innovation made possible with your donations. We’re sharing those stories with you in the words of the people who lived them: frontline staff, donors, and the families we serve across British Columbia. We are inspired by their stories. We know you will be, too.

Throughout 2020-2021, your support was unflagging and instrumental in achieving so many milestones. Here are some highlights.

Pandemic response. With the majority of our staff working from home, our ever-resourceful team engaged with you virtually. We shared our signature events online including Lights of Hope, Scotiabank Feast of Fortune, and our Health Innovation Series. The Foundation also became an “operations centre,” managing the flood of in-kind donations for our frontline workers that poured in from across the community.

Construction kickoff. Thanks to you, we reached our $225 million goal for the new St. Paul’s Hospital a year ahead of schedule! In March, we celebrated the start of construction of the new St. Paul’s Hospital. Following public health guidelines, we held a small but meaningful event at the Station Street site to mark the historic day. But we’re just getting started. There are a number of significant capital projects coming to the Jim Pattison Medical Centre including our $50 million Research Institute. This massive 750,000-square-foot facility (the current St. Paul’s Hospital is 300,000 square feet!) will house the majority of St. Paul’s world-leading research programs. And it will bring about opportunities for discovery, collaboration, and innovation like never before.

Truly a home sweet home. Another transformative capital project on the horizon is our commitment to Providence Living to create a holistic new model for publicly-funded long-term care. Planning is already well underway for The Views in Comox and will continue with the St. Vincent’s Heather redevelopment in Vancouver.

Indigenous wellness and reconciliation. Providence and St. Paul’s Foundation remain committed to the process of Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples across BC. We are embedding reconciliation into everything we do. We support Providence in providing culturally-safe, appropriate, and compassionate care for – and with – all Indigenous patients, clients, residents, families, and community members. Initiatives include actively recruiting Indigenous senior leaders, expanding the Indigenous wellness and reconciliation department to lead organization-wide change, and establishing an Indigenous Peer Program. Donor support is critical to realize our commitment to improved Indigenous health and wellness across BC.

Your gift to St. Paul’s Foundation provides compassionate, innovative care for patients, families, and caregivers right across BC. Please give today!
