The CREST initiative at St. Paul’s Foundation
Fostering a culture of innovation requires investing in the growth and professional development of nurses and allied health staff. Within Providence Health Care (PHC), dedicated nurses and allied health professionals are constantly seeking to generate and bring leading-edge knowledge into the core of clinical care at St. Paul’s Hospital.
Cue CREST, a first in Canada initiative that provides those professionals with training opportunities, funding, and mentorship to cultivate their research skills and apply their insights into practice. CREST offers dedicated infrastructure and a means to become the catalyst for evidence-based and tangible advancements in patient care.
Whether they’re a nurse, a physiotherapist, a respiratory therapist, or a speech-language pathologist, these ambitious professionals will bring the patient experience into their research and use their research findings to provide excellence in patient care. And you can play an essential part in this inspiring commitment.
Strengthening patient voices at Providence
Providence Health Care (PHC) believes the best health care is designed with patients and families, not just for them. Their voices bring invaluable insights that can shape care to be more compassionate, responsive, and effective.
For anyone who has experienced the health care system – whether as a patient, family member, or caregiver - it's clear how critical it is to have patients and families at the table. They know firsthand what works, what doesn’t, and what truly matters in moments of need.
“The people and families we serve have insights that make care better — safer, more compassionate, and more responsive to what truly matters. This support will ensure their voices are not just heard, but actively shaping how care is designed, delivered, and led at Providence Health Care. A dedicated patient partner role ensures that real-life experiences help strengthen decisions across our organization, including the future of the new St. Paul’s Hospital.”
—Desh Pillay, Director, Allied Health and Interprofessional Practice
This new role will help ensure that care at PHC is shaped directly by the lived experiences of patients and families. You can have a direct impact on helping more patients feel seen and heard on their healing journey.
Empowering staff through the Quality Improvement Challenge
Rooted in a dedication to excellence, St. Paul’s Foundation is on a constant journey of refining and enhancing our health care practices. The Quality Improvement (QI) Challenge is a testament to this dedication, and is a transformative initiative designed to elevate patient care, empower health care professionals, and foster innovation within PHC.
