Ringing in the holiday season and marking the beginning of St. Paul’s Foundation’s annual Lights of Hope giving campaign, thousands of sparkling lights and a digital fireworks display lit up St. Paul’s Hospital earlier this evening.

A beloved Vancouver holiday tradition, Lights of Hope enables St. Paul’s Foundation to meet the greatest needs of patients and residents at Providence Health Care (Providence) hospitals and long-term care homes. The display will be lit nightly until January 4, 2021, with a livestream available at lightsofhope.com throughout the season.

Celebrating 22 years of giving, community donations to Lights of Hope total more than $40 million to date. Gifts directly support all Providence hospitals and care homes, funding urgently needed equipment, life-saving research, community programs, and other essential patient and resident services that would otherwise not be funded through traditional channels.

“This year has highlighted the importance of health care, with our frontline teams across Providence Health Care working tirelessly to provide our community with the best care possible,” said Dick Vollet, President and CEO, St. Paul’s Foundation. “Tonight, as we kick-off this year’s Lights of Hope campaign, we feel so grateful for the generosity of our community over the years. It is through the incredible support of our donors that we can continue to support the ongoing efforts of our hospitals and long-term care homes in meeting the urgent and essential needs of our patients and residents.”

This year, St. Paul’s Foundation has reimagined the much-loved annual fundraiser to celebrate hope together, while safely apart, with Hope at Home. In addition to tuning into the livestream of the display from home, and donating online at lightsofhope.com, the community can also show their support by purchasing a limited edition Hope at Home holiday lantern. Inspired by the nightly 7pm cheer for frontline workers, Hope at Home star lanterns can be hung in windows to show support for our health care heroes. They are available for purchase at lightsofhope.com.

The Lights of Hope display features 4,000 feet of lights, 400 stars, and a new digital projection element with a few fun surprises. Inspiring hope and giving, the display is made up of donated materials and built by volunteers.
