Funds raised will support the future of research and innovation in a state-of-the-art complex connected to the new St. Paul’s Hospital on the Jim Pattison Medical Campus

VANCOUVER, BC, February 13, 2023 – The 16th annual Scotiabank Feast of Fortune welcomed 399 prominent guests from the Greater Vancouver philanthropic community to an exciting, in-person event for the first time in two years. Hosted by St. Paul’s Foundation, the event saw $3.58 million raised, with proceeds supporting the Clinical Support and Research Centre (CSRC) on the Jim Pattison Medical Campus – greatly surpassing the Foundation’s fundraising goal.

The exciting twist of the evening was when two donors, Peter Bull, a Providence Health Care board member, Chairman of The West Pender Property Group, and the President of P.M. Bull & Company Ltd., and Terry Hui, President and CEO of Concord Pacific‎ Developments Inc., stood up and excitedly pledged $1 million each, a move that received a standing ovation.

“We’re proud to be celebrating the 2023 Scotiabank Feast of Fortune with our guests in person this evening,” said Dick Vollet, President and CEO, St. Paul’s Foundation. “The record-breaking funds raised tonight will go toward building the most advanced research facility in Western Canada, helping to usher in a golden age of research, discovery, and innovation. Thank you to all our generous donors and sponsors for their exceptional show of support.”

The CSRC is a purpose-built research and innovation complex that will enable the most significant transformation in health care in BC’s history. Connected to the new St. Paul’s Hospital via a sky bridge, the CSRC represents the future of medicine. Everything about it – from its size to its technology – will inspire a virtuous circle of collaboration between patients, researchers, clinicians, academia, and industry partners. The new St. Paul’s Hospital together with the CSRC will provide the most innovative delivery of integrated health care and research in BC, Canada, and beyond.

This year, long-time partner of the gala, the Chinese Restaurant Awards, have returned, bringing five notable chefs who prepared creative and tasty treats for guests.

Since its beginnings in 2008, the Scotiabank Feast of Fortune gala – a philanthropic celebration of the Lunar New Year – have raised over $12.2 million to fund life-saving diagnostic tools, surgical equipment, research, and more for Providence Health Care.
